I've never liked it (even on the few occasions there was a girl around) and over the last couple years, I've grown to despise it. So bitter like me, or happied up?

It can [LIFTED] the [LIFTED] off this year as far as I'm concerned.
[LIFTED] Valentine's Day. [LIFTED] you you [LIFTED] [LIFTED] [LIFTED].

See, I was going for a moderate post, but you've actually summarised my feelings rather well Mark. Thanks.

There's nothing moderate regarding my feelings towards this festival of depression this year.
It can [LIFTED] the [LIFTED] off.

I'm in the Pie and Meh camp.

It's become yet another tawdry commercialised pile of pink dog poo.

I f*cking love pink crap. Any excuse for fluffy wuffy icky wicky kawaiiness is a good excuse.

I've bought my ex a highly inappropriate and rather expensive piece of cardboard this year. It's a shame I don't have someone specialerer to spoil this Valentine's, but that's no different to any other day for the last 3 years and 37 days. I can't blame my lack of love on Hallmark.

My wife told me we don't subscribe to any rampant commercialism (outside Crimbo). It saves me money so I agree with her.....

I can understand dumping on Christmas because it's so nausiatingly over comercialised that it practically bankrupts some people, and actively feeds the fat capatilist pig consumer greed which is destroying the planet. I hate Christmas.

Valantine's day doesn't have to be about money at all. It can simply be breakfast in bed and a foot massage, or any other loving attention which the busy rigours of modern life never seem to leave enough time for.

It's like a birthday, but just for the two of you. Of course, when you're in love every day is special - but if you maintained maximum love overdrive all year long you'd be sick. It's like exactly like chocolate. Love is chocolate.

I quite agree. Sadly, though, we're being bombarded with chocolate and greetings card schmaltz on the telly for the next couple of weeks.

Best Beloved and I don't need to remind ourselves we're in a relationship with this nonsense. Valentine's always used to be about making a special card and leaving it for a potential sweetheart without divulging your name. Now it's just an excuse for the retail business to make more money out of us.

So it's just me and Mark that are bitter then. Do we need a meh option in addition to pie?

JJ, that's a very accurate count you're keeping. Is there a story there?

Heather's spot on. The "real" purpose was for people you fancied from a distance. But Mark's right, that can still [LIFTED] the [LIFTED] off.

It's whatever you want it to be. You are not a media pawn.

She's arriving at my house in 2 hours, having recently split up with her bf of two years. She's the only lover I've ever had, so yes - I've been quite aware of ever day since we broke up.

It doesn't stop me being bothered about it. Everyone seems gets sucked into the whole pink ickyness of it, and I wonder why they do. Is everyone so shallow these days?

(Only partially kidding, btw.)
