WTF Google account?

WTF. I was just on the Google homepage and it had my Hotmail address in the top right corner with the option to sign out.
I've never set up a Google account! How the F did Google do this ? Has it some unknown way of spying on me?
The only things I've logged into since I opened by browser are Facebook, Youtube and X404. I haven't even logged into Hotmail.

Youtube is google IIRC, you can sign in with a gmail account on youtube now instead of a regular account
