I don't play anymore, because everybody online is just so frakking good. It becomes boring to be destroyed frag after frag. There's no room for people like me, who have a reasonable skill level, but only wanna play every now and again. And that's a shame.

I consider this a flaw in the games we play.

The games should be able to assess a player in terms of their ability, not their rank. Infinity Ward say that MW2 can do this - but it can't. It really really can't.

All they seem to do is group people into games based on rank - which is an awful way to group people. All rank tells you is how much the game has been played - not at what quality it has been played at.

If they looked at different stats, such as shot accuracy and kill/death ratio then you might get a fairer grouping of people.

They could even start to asses people's different gaming styles and group them on that - distance travelled per kill, or number of sniper/rifle/knife kills etc so the game is balanced between people who prefer different tactics.

If they do this, and manage to match people against more suitable opponants then I'm sure XBL/PSN usage would rocket even further.

This is a superb idea, and would bring me back to online gaming in a heartbeat if it worked.

A friend of mine said getting beat by some annoying ten year old whilst playing Tiger Woods Golf was just too much. Online games between friends is another matter but even then it is not always a good idea.

I've played COD:MW2 online a fair bit. The people who level up the quickest are the ones who have lots of free time.

What annoys me is the ranting and BS coming out of the mouths of some of these kids. Playing against them is annoying too.

I would prefer a system where if you're over 25, you're segregated from the brats.

I'm kind of giving up on games altogether. I just don't have the time and patience I had as a kid to beat that end-of-level baddie, or get through that difficult bit. I've never really liked first person shooters anyway, so I've sort of been left behind on that one.

I don't like playing FPSs with other people. I like to play big open military games where I can retreat to distance, break out the PSG-9 and slot a few bots. I like to be strategic and take my time; I'd rather a level had 20 bots in it and take an hour to complete than have 100 bots in it and take 10 minutes to complete.

Frankly I still prefer the Delta Force games to anything before or since - they were much more my type of gaming. Two-player co-op on Las Vegas 2 was rather good as well.

If games truly are intended to be a level playing field, they should include a random level generator so that good players who know the terrain can be taken out by experienced fraggers like myself who learn rapidly but simply don't know the terrain.

I put Killzone 3 in my PS3 the other day. I got totalled in the intro level. This would never have happened a few years back.

I’m 43, and clearly out of practice. Sad to say that the PS3 is used as much as a PVR and media playback unit as it is for games. Possibly more so.

A few weeks back, I was playing with some mates online. We all had our headsets and were helping each other to locate the enemy. We are all mid-20s to mid-30s with one guy in his 50s yet the five of us got slaughtered by three teenage kids.

This would be a surpisingly effective way of dramatically increasing the general uptake of online games

Also, if the game would also filter out people who use words like gay, f**k and c**t more than once, ever, that would be great too.

I don't agree with a swearing ban. I will often swear if I die, especially if I've been careful or if I die two or more times very quickly. Usually along the lines of "f**k" or "gay" or even "you c**t". I don't swear excessively and the over-25s are more likely to be more mature about things than the pre/teen players who unleash a constant stream of profanities for no reason.

Maybe Xbox Live is the home of Tourettes sufferers?
