Yes, but still there are winners. All of whom bought a ticket. For many it's not even the winning that's the fun bit, it is the taking part. Curious as that sounds.

So, the chances are I'll be £2 better off tomorrow. I like those odds.

When the UK lottery first came out, a group of about 20 of us in the hotel I was working in at the time chipped in to buy tickets each week. After the first month we never actually chipped in again. We won something virtually every week. Never enough to split out but it kept ticking over for several years.

I'm in the office syndicate, not because I think they'll ever win, but as insurance that just in case they do manage to pull off the ridiculously improbable I won't be the only left.

One ticket in Spain has won the entire jackpot. I hope the winning ticket isn't for a large syndicate. Imagine only ending up with 10 million or less each.

Has anyone looked into hotpicks? Or the other games? Wiki has an interesting page on the odds and it seems to me, the way to go is head for a lower jackpot, with better odds. Never played though.

I don't often buy a lottery ticket. Maybe two or three times a year? The last time was about a month ago. I felt very lucky that day so I decided to put a line in. Then decided to put another four lines. I paid £5 and won £10. My first line was enough so I could have only won £10 for £1 investment.
Anyway, didn't win. Not a single number came up. It had to be someone from spain too.

We play lotto-bingo at work.
Each of us chooses six numbers and and pays one pound a week. There are fifty of us.
The numbers are checked against the Wednesday draw, and the first one to clear all six gets the money in the pot. If two or more people win, they split the winnings. (it isn't done on the order of the balls drawn)
On average, the pot is won every seven weeks - £350.
I've won three times in two years, and cleared over £600.
Not a bad return on £100.

Well it turns out that I didn't lose out completely. In the end one of my strips did win £6.10, giving me a net profit of 10p!
Man, think of what I can do with those winnings.
