I cannot see why. The Wii ahas a huge user base and is probably considerably cheaper to develop for. A much lower risk if you were wondering what to invest in.

Wii does have a huge user base, and you can easily make very good games that don't need to be HD It's a hell of a lot cheaper to develop for being a more powerful version of the Gamecube, using the same SDK and API calls for the most part

Sure, and how many decent games are there for the Wii? I'm pretty sure I can count them with just my fingers.

the uneducated majority do not require decent games. the illusion of being healthy is enough for most people. i dont know why either. much cheaper to just go outside for a run, rather than jogging on a glorified set of scales. casual gaming is killing the hardcore

January sales figures show the Wii is still outperforming the other consoles

But then you're probably not the target market for the Wii. Those who like lifestyle gaming and a lot of younger kids will get much more enjoyment and fun from a Wii than a PS3. I dont think it was ever supposed to complete with the PS3 and 360 in that sense.

I have to say, between young cousins and friends' kids, even they saw it as something of a novelty and little else after a few months. The women I know all bought it for Wii Fit of course, but with the same result

I agree the novely wears off but what makes me laugh is the 'PS3 rulez, Wii sux' crowd e.g "And I just love the way the Wii plays COD:MW2 in High-Def...oh, wait...". The women who bought the Wii and the kids who convinced their parents to buy one were never in the market for a PS3. Its a whole different market segment to the gaming crowd. Comparing the two consoles is fruitless IMO.

dont forget The Conduit lots of people didnt like it, but i thought it was quite fun aimed at our grown-up demographic too, its about as close to mainstream FPS (Gears of War, Resistance, Half-Life etc) as the Wii gets and Red Steel, it was a let-down compared to what they were promising, but still great to play. and Excite Truck, Battalion Wars II, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, No More Heroes (<3 <3 <3, sequel incoming!!) and the House of the Dead games

I think what Sony has failed to see is that Nintendo have practically created a whole new gaming audience. Nintendo are kid friendly. They are also friendly towards the older person. Look at their adverts - Patrick Stewart on a DS! That’s a powerful image to a lot of people. More so than the game graphics he was demonstrating.
Sony has to play catchup with that audience if they want a bigger slice of the pie, as do Microsoft. They also don’t want to alienate the “hard core” gamers who wat their blood-soaked pound of flesh and will abandon the console if granny gets her hands on it.
A tough market - probably tougher than it was before.
Sony - I want GT5 before my pension, please.

It might have a bigger user base, but how many Wiis are still in regular use, rather than gathering dust in cupboards, once the novelty of Wii Sports or Wii Fit has worn off?
