Must have been the first time the Flood appeared? I was there for a while too!

That was the name. Flood. I was stuck there for nine months. I had the kids come and stay and one of the twins got me out in a matter of minutes. After that It only too a few days to complete the rest of the game. The problem is mazes are lousy for amnesiacs. Even with a manual you cannot read it fast enough to get through.

I remember that bit (wasn't that Halo 2?). Anyway, I played legendary coop with my housemate and we managed to finish it but the flood were fracking annoying!

I was going to say that they've got harder, but I think I've just got less patient and have less time on my hands. I've actually gone off games now. When I was a kid, I used to plug away until I cracked it, now if I don't do it in three goes the game goes back on the shelf. It's a shame, but means I've not actually particularly enjoyed any games on my PS3 and now barely use it.

I suspect when I finally get an HD telly, It'll spark a mild bout of interest for a few months, but really I can't seem to find any games I like any more.

There are different kinds of games. I do like a good story, but you know that the game has had a number of possible paths plotted. I also know that there are key moments that you have to get to, because someone spent a lot of time pre-rendering a cut scene. Part of me likes this - another part of me feels cheated as despite getting through a level in a certain fashion, you always end up with the same cut scene. Games just aren’t intelligent enough to generate a cut scene based on previous performance. I am not sure if there is a game yet that reorganises itself completely based on play. By this, I mean that the entire end of the game is undetermined by the programmer - it just happens. At the moment, games are basically electronic Steve Jackson books.

I guess this is where the online elements can help - you get to play against other human beings, and the end result may be very different because of this, but it’s online play, and I’ve never come across anyone worse than me - I wonder where these people find the time to get that good. So I tend not to bother.

I agree with this.

However, I think there is a game that is completely undetermined by the programmer in terms of outcomes, plots, uses of items, etc... That game is Little Big Planet.

I've never played it apart from on a store demo but it is the only game where the user content has taken the game beyond the imagination of the programmers who wrote it.

In fact I would say that it's closer to being a game design language game rather than an actual game. i.e. the true game is making up your own levels, your own contraptions, your own devices, etc... the secondary part of the game is then playing what you have created.

I go for strategy games which are not so dependant on accurate shooting like the FPS, and rely on dexterity like some others.

I'm currently playing the AvP Marine missions on Normal ( ;) ) - there's times where the game encourages you to run instead of fighting

Pushing and holding the L3 button/stick to run is pish, but it would help if my reactions were quicker of course

And to give you an idea, the Aliens currently aren't looking to kill the survivors...
