Japanese consumers aren't interested in 3D TVs and do not intend to purchase one for their homes.

That's according to a recent survey conducted by Kakaku.com, which claims that this could lead to some significant problems for Sony's 3D push on the PlayStation 3.

8,957 people responded to the survey and 67.4 percent of respondents said they didn't intend to upgrade to a 3D capable TV.

70 percent of respondents cited the glasses as an issue, 57 percent said the price was a deterrent and nearly 40 percent said the lack of content was factors for this decision.

With so few Japanese consumers considering the lack of adoption is sure to hurt 3D - for now at least.

Let's see what the percentages look like when the prices come down a bit, eh?

I don't really see those numbers changing much...

If Japanese tech firms can't sell gimmicks to the home crowd, what chance have they elsewhere?

If the Japanese made 3D porn, I'd buy it.

Japanese Porn is very heavily pixelated. That would look weird in 3D.

Yes, Lego porn in 3D would be equally good.

However, they do sell uncensored videos for the export market.

Well it is all better than UK TV porn. That on 3D would be pointless.

I am really surprised that they are selling so well in Japan. The market there is so advanced compared to here. Maybe Apples investigation into what people actually want from their phone has paid off immensely.

Striking a tangent, surely in this day and age there must be a way to de-pixelate images?

Imagine the ability to de-pixelate programs and the fun and chaos it would cause. You could de-pixelate porn which would be good, and you could de-pixelate people hiding their identity which would not be so good.

Only with imagination. They don't usually use a lossless algorithm, and you can't extrapolate detail that simply isn't there.

Even the magazines have little stickers over the "naughty bits", and they rip the page when you try to remove them. Of course you could fill in the hole using generic genitalia (ooh err) and careful colour matching, but that would be fake.

I'd post examples to demonstrate, but it's probably best if you find your own pr0ns

That has kind of happened when idiots used the wrong method to hide their face. It was a Photoshop swirl effect (not sure the correct name) which is actually reversible because it retains detail.

In that case, I think they were raping a child so it was good that they got caught...

I remember PC Pro mentioning that case. Thinking back on it, it actually took quite a bit of time for someone to figure that out it seems :|

Yes I remember that. But that took a lot of processing power. The person was scum and deserved to be caught.
