Kodak is going after Shutterfly in its recent paten spats. This could have implications for Flickr and other larger image libraries if successful.

No details of the actual patents that Kodak feels have been infringed, and how they have been used in an unauthorised fashion. (8+/

That seems to be the way of such things. I’ve seen this before - there follows protracted legal disputes while each party tries to determine what the other has infringed. It may be that the Kodak one is just a fishing expedition, hoping that they’ll get paid regardless. This is the American way of doing business - if you can’t win, sue.

"The patents Kodak holds are incredibly broad, effectively covering images that are stored centrally and can be ordered online," she said.

That's likely to mean Kodak will go after other online image sites it believes also infringe its patents, she added.

Kodak said it has over 400 similar patents.

That pretty much sums up how ludicrous the system is, I think...

This is why software patents are stupid, and why the U.S. is also stupid in allowing them.

Thankfully in Europe* it's not generally possible to patent software.

*European Union.

I agree on the European view. Patenting software life or even a formula is not good for a country.
