Genius (esp. since the studios will greenlight anything comic-related), though allegedly they have the same mentality as the games makers that female leads don't sell I don't mind remakes if the situation can't really get any worse - Highlander, Robocop, The Crow, Blade... All of those were getting redone, dunno what the current state of play is

I object. I've not seen The Crow, but the other three are all more than very good as standalone movies. Just because there are some gash sequels floating about, doesn't mean that It really, really could.

How about the Romulans in Star Trek? They have appeared in every ST incarnation since season one of TOS in 1966. They are pretty much always antagonistic and just the mention of their name is enough to connote malice, aggression ,cunning and terror. Whilst not as frequent as the Klingons, their much more cerebral nature seem to make any episode much darker than the Klingons seemed to manage. They, like any "Big Bad", seem to get wheeled out any time the writers want to create a feeling of evil. The film Star Trek: Nemesis was based pretty much entirely on this premise. Just a thought.

You haven't seen the original Crow? The rest in the series that I've seen were just weird/crap IMO (Dacascos, Furlong). I'm of the opinion that if a series has become as 'tainted' as the ones I've mentioned, you may as well have another go since there's so little to lose. It's a bit like the Bond films where they often get increasingly silly until someone reins them in a bit, before the process starts over again...

I wouldn't be in a rush to rectify that one, though, really...

Don't count. Generally speaking a big bad appears for a single season. Although they may occasionally turn up subsequently, generally speaking they run for a season. The modern twist on this formula might be Harold Saxon from Who, but even he isn't just a catch all enemy who pops out whenever. Whereas the classic series "Master" was much more of a general villian, than a big bad. That's where the Daleks/Cybermen bear comparison to Romulans/Klingons/Cardassians etc. Plus, a big bad HAS TO make an appearance as the climactic baddie in the season finale.

We all know robots can't act, and it's Michael Bay at the helm. What was Brandon Lee and Alex Proyas excuse?

Gotcha. I understand now - I stopped watching popular TV just before Buffy turned up.

Unless I'm misreading things here, The Crow is quite a good/likeable film with a gritty tone that runs the whole way through the film, as opposed to today's 'What do you mean it isn't a 12a?!'

Or, it's not, and it's actually pretentious wannabe-goth nonsense with the world's worst roof top guitar solo in the rain. Your choice.

I actually think I'll just give my password to Prof and he can post for me from now on, it's really pointless us both commenting on things.

Believe me I wouldn't have sat through it were that truly the case (it might have inspired a few of those plonkers though), and it's one of the few examples of a film outshining the source material, though I didn't know that at the time.

When I watched "The Crow" I didn't get on with it.
I thought it was more famous for what happened during filming than for the results.
Meh.
