I was listening to a podcast today that said that if you have an Android device and have downloaded one of the apps that have been infected you should return your handset to the shop for a replacement. This is something to do with "root" but I don't quite get what that means.

I can't see much about it on the web (if it were that big I would expect to surely??)

Now I hear of dozens of more infected apps.

Oh, now I have a reference.

Quote:
A piece of malware with root access to a phone can read any data stored on it and transmit it anywhere. This includes contact information, documents, and even stored account passwords. With root access it's possible to install components that aren't visible from the phone's user interface and can't be easily removed. For this reason, any compromised phone should be reset to it's factory default state - in some cases this may require a trip back to the phone store.

The link above gives full details.

In the case of the calculator it is com.advanced.scientific.calculator

Dozens of apps, but only three developers. I have nothing from these people.

It amuses me greatly that a mall-ware author calls himself "King Mall". The clue is in the name?

Early. I felt ill yesterday, so I was in bed at seven.
As a result I woke up very early.
