That would work, but in BBC BASIC (at least) the semi colon makes the computer print the next iteration of the text on the same line, so you would get something like this:

Bring back BASIC!Bring back BASIC!Bring back BASIC!Bring back BASIC!Bring back BASIC!Bring back BASIC!

Which is why I've always preferred it. I hated the single column of text.

Exactly, that gives a nice diagonal full-screen scroll effect... although I'd usually put a space in and possibly some color (sic)

+1 I used to be able to remember the code for that. Did it involve COLOR and RND?

BBC Basic used COLOUR as a key word. BBC BASIC V (as used on the Archimedes and beyond) also allowed COLOR.

If you have a Pace or Bush set top box fr your cable TV, I understand that it may be possible to get it to boote into RISC OS. This is what happened to Acorn.

Just looked it up. Spectrum BASIC didn't use "COLOUR" - it used INK!

And you had to press more keys than it would take to just type the word. I think there were four modifier keys and the actual key on the keyboard.

That was the case with the 48k I had, but with the 128k, you could just type the word just as you typed your reply. If there was a command you'd misspelt, it would flash a ? at you.
