Went out last nigh to the Weihnachtsmarkt in Osnabrück and Thalia was still open (large bookstore chain). Showed my girlfriend the Oyo and the Sony readers. She likes the Sony, a lot. She isn't a tech person, but she buys so many books that we are running out of space!
Now the difficult decision, do we go with the Thalia/Sony offer or get a Kindle. Currently Thalia has a much larger range of German language books than Amazon - and when I looked, 6 of the last 10 books that my girlfreind bought weren't available on Kindle, I'm not sure how many are available on Thalia, yet.
Has anyone any experience with both? How does the Kindle compare to the Sony, in terms of ease of use and screen quality? The Sony screen is certainly much brighter and "cleaner" than the Oyo, but I have never seen a Kindle in the flesh.

My sister was with my mum when she bought the Kindle, and she had a play with the Sony. Clearly it's very good, but she thought the Kindle was still a better buy.
I'll have to take her word for it - I haven't seen the Sony myself.

That's the problem of not being able to test a Kindle...
I have Amazon Prime, but my girlfriend buys most of her books from Thalia. And, at the moment, Amazon has the smallest collection of eBooks on the market. I think we will probably go for the Sony. but as an Amazon customer, I'd still like to test a Kindle first.

Isn't it easy enough to check what content is available? The best eBook in the world is no better than a book mark if there's no content you want.

Not really, considering eInk isn't backlit and has very different characteristics to LCD...

I know, but I was thinking in terms of reviews, possible side by side comparisons etc.
