A box on which the entire Steam library has been tested, which will play games 4 years from now and has dedicated driver support in addition to being a nice looking box to go under the TV. It's the ideal media centre for many people, and would doubtless create a flurry of new developers targeting the living room PC.

I can't see it happening TBH, the hardware requirements for the entire Steam library are too disparate, not to mention the requirements of future releases....

...unless, of course, they go down the OnLive route.

I was being overly optimistic when I said "entire library", but if the hardware existed with a wide enough user base then most developers would make sure they could stick a "Compatible with Steam Box" sticker on their games.

It would be good to have a reference platform for developers, even if you didn't own one yourself. You don't get to display the Steam Box logo unless there are no game-breaking bugs and it plays at 25fps on the lower settings. They might then have a more realistic idea of what people actually need.

There are no modern games that wouldn't run on my PC if they were well coded. In reality, very few do so to an acceptable level...
