will this really reduce my life expectancy and/or cause all sorts of problems? one week I work earlyshift 6am til 2:30pm then 8am til 4:30pm on saturdays and the week after its 2:00pm til 10:30pm and then 8am til 4:30pm on sunday, this repeats every week, earlyshift then backshift then early then back, someone said this will reduce life expectancy and is not good for you doing this, is this true and should I be worried?

It's nights and days that [LIFTED] you generally. The changes you're talking about shouldn't cause problems, but if it bugs you, it bugs you. After all, we're all different.

Of all the way I've thought Bratty will die, nightshifts haven't been one of them.

I guess one might say that I am now on a proper night-shift schedule. 7pm-7am, four days on, four days off. This is now my permanent shift pattern. While I'm on my four days off I'm trying to stay in nocturnal mode, so I'm still staying up through the night and sleeping through the day. It seems to be working OK for me at the moment.

Those shifts aren't too bad. It is once you start doing night shifts and long shifts (12 hours or more) and irregular shift patterns that are bad for you. The shifts you are doing look fairly reasonable and you are doing a weekly change, not every other day.
