The former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Lord Lawson, has called for the UK to leave the European Union.

Writing in the Times, he said British economic gains from an exit "would substantially outweigh the costs".

He predicted any changes achieved by David Cameron's attempts to renegotiate the terms of the UK's relations with the EU would be "inconsequential".

Another Tory banging on about Europe.

The only two mainstream parties (ie the top 4) that are united on their viewpoint on the EU are the Lib's (in) and UKIP (out).
Labour and the Conservatives are just as split except the Conservatives are more publically split.

For many it is not as simple as a straight in out choice. I would prefer to stay in but recognise that there need to be changes in the way the EU is run and guided.

Any vote would be inevitably be weighted in such a way that was essencially meaningless to most people.

It also depends on the phrasing of the question. Now while there are many problems with the EU and the commission I actually have more faith in it maintaining rights than in our government. So I would vote in favour of staying in. Though it does depend on how that question is phrased.

Well, there goes my job then, and my house... I hope I am married before they make a decision!

On another similar thread I did joke about membership of the EU allowed us to get shot of you! Exit would mean that we would have to take you back.;) In which case shouldn't you be allowed to vote in any referendum that impacted you?

I expect you can convince them you are German really. There must be some kind of immigration procedure for non-EU citizens?

Possibly some history test that even most locals would not pass?

That thought had crossed my mind but I'll decide when the vote happens. Or not
