I saw this and thought it may be an interesting article to add to the mix here.

It's very badly argued, containing many blunders.

It contains sheer nonsenses like...

Unfortunately I voted Liberal. Though that candidate lost to a Tory.

I did think that the traditions aspect might be wrong. There is a growing movement in the US towards domesticity, and more home skills rather than buying in. Now that would be traditional but I think that many are doing it for financial reasons, as well as health reasons. The same is true here. The horse meat scandal has meat a resurgence in home mincing and a shift away from corporate suppliers to local butchers. I would not say that it would fit the idea of traditionalism.

In the grand scheme of whether or not we are drifting towards a cult of personal renewal through obedience to a violent state, I'm not convinced a 3% increase in the number of people who are bored enough to mince their own burger meat is all that relevant.

This article is a load of tosh, it merely shows that the population of the UK is moving further and further towards being a bunch of la-de-da nincompoops who have mush where their brain should be. Idiotic things like:

Quote:
the UK Border Agency are stopping mostly non-white commuters on the transport networks and requesting they display credentials to prove their right to be here

Guess what, it's 2013, we are part of the EU, so lets do some minor calculations and considerations and deduce that the VAST majority of illegal immigrants in the UK are NOT white! God forbid we should offend the bunch of self-righteous socialists who plague society with their continuous prattle about how discriminating against any and everything is wrong. Personally, I don't really care if immigrants want to come to the UK (providing they add something to society, *cough*Australia*cough*), it doesn't even come into the argument, but what is the point in having a campaign to catch immigrants if you target the set of people who are 100x more likely to be legally here as well.

I came through Manchester airport (yesterday) and got selected by a random machine to have a pat-down. I don't have a problem with this, except from one minor thing, as the machine is, presumably, random - what happens when an Iranian wearing size 25 shoes and a puffer jacket walks through and its 30 degrees outside, do we ignore him to make society feel better about itself?

Quote:
In summary, the UK has a lower immigrant population than almost any ‘developed’ nation, these immigrants are mostly assessed via a Points Based System, only 7% are asylum seekers, and only 33% of asylum claims are accepted. There is no open door.

Wonderful of the author to forget the EU migrants. Not as though there are many of those around or anything....

Quote:
It’s racist because it contributes to the total lie that immigration is out of control, a big problem and a culture of fear and suspicion of people who look different to the majority – ‘any of them could be an illegal!’

The number of people entering the UK is out of control, are there enough jobs for everyone in the country? No? Then why do we need more people, are we feeling lacking in the population department? Once again a misconception of racism, its just called informed marketing. No point dumping the van in the countryside/affluent white areas.

Quote:
The fact that people are still even asking ‘how is this racist’ tells you just how damaging this conversation about immigration has become. The UK populace is being taught to fear the ‘illegal’ and the ‘immigrant’ as a drain on our resources, while the country is being feasted upon by privateers and profiteers.

Well, if according to his statement about how targeting non-white areas for immigration campaigns was wrong and we should also examine white people's credentials, then white people can also be illegal immigrants. So surely pictures of illegal immigrants will also include white people, therefore race doesn't come into it. Oh wait....

So many left wing morons these days, all hopping on the bandwagon and preaching nonsense. One of the reasons the country is in an economic mess is because it can't do anything without someone becoming offended and being afforded an idiotic amount of rights (ie fracking debate, sure rehouse people if you must, but a job is a job, and a pound is a pound).

/rant out.

The fundamental fallacy in the 'immigration is out of control' argument is that nobody actually knows. We simply have no idea how many people are leaving and entering the UK. Until we get even a vaguely reliable estimate of that, any talk about 'levels of immigration' are frankly the blink leading the blind, regardless of which direction we're supposedly going in.

Arguing about immigration when there are no hard facts available is an act of stupidity. As the saying goes, the plural of anecdote is not 'evidence'.

Aside from anything else, when considering the notion of whether the UK is becoming more repressively right wing, immigration is an utterly irrelevant issue. The important issue is what laws the government are bringing in and how they affect our society in terms of personal freedoms and rights. The laws that apply here right now matter to all of us right now, regardless of where you were born.

Surely by definition it's not in control then?

No, it's just means that it's apparently not being recorded for some reason.

How can you be in control of something that you don't know about?
