My grandmother is in Hospital and it's pretty bad, my mum is saying that they only let people in with masks.
Do I go home, knowing she won't recognise me or do I wait longer?

Assuming the masks are to protect her from infection due to a reduced immune system I'd say you'd need to wait until your cold is better or the won't let you in.
