My grandmother is in Hospital and it's pretty bad, my mum is saying that they only let people in with masks.
Do I go home, knowing she won't recognise me or do I wait longer?

Assuming the masks are to protect her from infection due to a reduced immune system I'd say you'd need to wait until your cold is better or the won't let you in.

My mum actually really doesn't care much and has pretty much refused to see her in the last few years. It's a very strange situation as my grandmother was a rather mean person until she developed alzheimer so there isn't many warm feelings going around :S
