Lego Batman: The Movie - It's not great but it's better paced and has more laughs than The Lego Movie IMO. It also doesn't drag on as long.

Noah. I was the only one who wanted to go watch Captain America.

Some good moments, some environmentally type stuff (for pcernie) - though nothing you probably haven't already heard before, some incorrect moments (at least according to latest research and QI), a shade too long, and a bit of a let down ending (IMO). Everyone else liked it but I wasn't as massively impressed and there were bits I would have tweaked to my liking.

I will place it above MoS and maybe IM2, but only slightly.

The only really annoying thing was that I watched it at the odeon (it was an AMC cinema and has been taken over), and they screened it in a small screen and yet it sold out. This meant people had trouble finding seats and so the film didn't start until 30 mins after its screen time.

Fcuk, that's me out

Go and see Captain America even if you have to go by yourself. It's like the recent Batman films in that it's not strictly a superhero movie, much more of a thriller in the main.

Put it this way, it isn't a film I'd have gone out of my way to watch and I don't think it's something I'd ever rewatch but it still some enjoyable stuff.

I've heard cap2 is supposedly the best of the avengers films so far, so very intrigued. Will go watch it next weekend.

Finally got round to watching the last Star Trek film. Feel vaguely like my intelligence has been insulted.

I seem to recall delays during filming and last minute tweaks with little in the way of advance screenings etc. Those are rarely good signs...

I found it pretty much forgettable. Despite all the action scenes, many very good, it was a bit boring because nothing the cast said was very interesting or constructed to be!

Love Steaks looks like a fun little movie.

One to go and see with a vegetarian friend...

The things with the Star Trek movie was I got a very strong feeling the explosions and stuff were there to try to (and largely fail to) hide the fact the plot made absolutely no sense at all, either in broad terms as a narrative or in the Star Trek canon in detail. I mean, really is

"Look, we've got to stop this planet blowing up!"
"What, why is it blowing up?"
"WELL I DON'T KNOW. Just help me with this enormous bomb we're going to detonate to stop an explosion happening."

Supposed to be a plot, even for five minutes?

Cumberbatch's character was awful even given I like him as an actor, his 'better genes' being used as an excuse to do things that were utterly ludicrous and impossible but were required so their idiotic plot didn't fall apart like a sandcastle hit by a wave. Kirk, unlike the original Kirk, is actually just a tw*t with no real redeeming attributes at all. Spock is bogglingly inconsistent in his vulcan/humanness as the plot requires. And much as I generally don't mind an incredibly attractive blond in her underwear, the scene with Alice Eve taking her clothes off was so utterly gratuitous I was more embarrassed than titillated. 'Come into this space shuttle so I can tell you not to look while I get my kit off'. what? WHAT? That's something a porn film director would dismiss as being 'a bit ham-fisted'.

Gah. I've seen it now, I can't unsee it but I can damn well not see the next one.

Agreed. Very, very poor show. JJ A is either trying to do too much or is somewhat overrated, along with the writing team, the producers et al.

Or, 'The Chris Nolan' effect as it should be known.

I had no problem with Team Nolan until the wheel nuts started to come lose with TDKR.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
I really enjoyed this.
It's a caper, a love story, a murder mystery that's all set in some fictional setting framed by real-world events.
There's a melancholy running just behind the smiles of the main characters which belies all that is being said out loud.
There's a wonderful visual precision to the film and if all this guys films are like this I think I'll have to try and watch them too.

Mark
