From what I've read, as I'm running XP, even an upgrade will require a clean install. But I have to do it from the XP desktop  :?

So even though it's "clean" it's no use to me, as I don't wanna be formatting, then installing XP, then installing 7, every time I wanna clean up. Ruuubish!

DSR? You mean I've got 14 days or whatever?

Well that is what happens when you skip a release, saying that it's not all bad as you should really do a clean install anyway (and you could just boot the disc and do it)

Well as said before if you catch a pre order now you should get a full retail licence

7/14 days from receipt of the goods, not when you ordered

And that's 7 WORKING days too.

Epic. Thanks guys. Oh and Fin, I skipped a release on purpose ;) And I always like clean installs. I wouldn't upgrade even if I had Vista.

I have to pay £1500 + VAT a year for being a Certified Partner so £280 is a bargain.

For that I get 10 copies of ultimate (+ unlimited keys for "development & testing"), server licences & access to the entire Microsoft back catalogue.
I get my money's worth.

Well I did actually as I can cancel my 'pre-order' at any time up to release without penalty, and as my card hasn't been charged there is no acceptance of contract with the supplier so is not an official order as such :)

It's still an order, whether it was cancelled or not. It's like pre-book, pre-release, pre-plan... I mean, WTF does pre-plan actually mean?

"We'll meet at 0400hrs to pre-plan the plan."

"Right-ho, Skip."

Ah yes, but at this stage it's only an invitation to treat. The "contract" is only formed when your card is charged and the order is shipped.

L_U at this stage you have made an offer, it is up to ms to accept or not, thereby forming the contract or not.

This is quite distinct from your order / pre-order situation which, as far as I am aware, has no legal connotation either way.

No, Amazon display stuff for sale, this is an invitation to treat. You, by "pre-ordering" are making an offer for the item.

The offer is only accepted by Amazon when they charge your card. This creates a contract.

Your contract is with the retailer, Microsoft are not involved.

Doesn't Technet get you a fair few keys for pretty much the entire catalogue.

For evaluation purposes, obviously.
