Gay is a more difficult one, because it has so many meanings and only one of those is to relate to homosexuals.

I think the word is still evolving. I've heard people who have nothing against gays use it as a derogatory term. It might not sound bad if it doesn't mean homosexual, but let's not forget it evolved directly from a negative view of that and as such will still cause a lot of offence if used.
